چکیده
HIPERLAN/2 and IEEE 8 0 2 . 1 1 ~ are two Wireless LAN (WLAN) stundurds which operate in the 5GHz bund. In order to support broadband multimediu conznzunicutions, they cun provide dutu rates up to 54 Mbps. I n this puper an overview of the two stundurds is presented together with software simulated physical layer perfosnzance results. Furthermore, the differences between the two stundurds (PDU size, MAC layers etc.} und the effects on throughput und runge ure discussed.

A Comparison of the HIPERLAN/2 and IEEE 802.11a Wireless LAN Standards
At present, WLANs supporting broadband multimedia communication are being developed and standardized around the world. Standards include HIPERLAN/2, defined by ETSI BRAN, 802.11a, defined by the IEEE, and HiSWANa defined by MMAC. These systems provide channel adaptive data rates up to 54 Mb/s (in a 20 MHz channel spacing) in the 5 GHz radio band. In this article an overview of the HIPERLAN/2 an...

متن کاملIndoor throughput and range improvements using standard compliant AP antenna diversity in IEEE 802.11a and ETSI HIPERLAN/2
This paper explores the application of spacetime diversity techniques to enhance the performance of 5 GHz WLANs. The analysis is based on systems conforming to either the IEEE 802.11a or ETSI HIPERLAN/2 standard. Two antennas are assumed at the Access Point (AP) with a single antenna at the Mobile Terminal (MT). Down-Link (DL) improvements are offered via the application of one of two fully com...

متن کاملCo-existence and Interworking of IEEE 802.11a and ETSI BRAN HiperLAN/2 in MultiHop Scenarios
IEEE 802.11a and ETSI BRAN HiperLAN/2 are evolving standards for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). Radio systems of these types will operate at the unlicensed 5GHz bands. When these radio systems operate at the same radio channel in the neighborhood, they will mutually interfere with each other. Data throughput, quality of service levels, and availability will be degraded and unpredictable ...
